Forbidden Island Card Game Review

Are you looking for a new game for your family game night this holiday season?

Or perhaps a great Christmas gift for someone who loves games?

Fancy a family game that’s as challenging as it is fun?

If you find most card games to be a little too easy, the Forbidden Island Card Game is just what you need!

Designed for 2-4 players, the game requires strategic thinking, problem solving and even player cooperation in order to win.

Forbidden Island can be played by children aged 10 and over and promises a game time of around 30 minutes.

Work together as a team to capture sacred treasures

The premise of the game is similar to the other variations in the collection and it's great for family bonding and working as a team - so ideal for families with teenagers!

Rather than working against one another, you need to work together as a family to beat the game.

The goal is to capture four sacred treasures spread across the ruins of the Forbidden Island.

You’ll need to incorporate your problem-solving skills, along with strategic thinking to avoid dying and get off the island before it sinks.

Engaging for adults and kids alike

One of the best things about this game is that it is suitable for both adults and children.

No matter what your age, you’re sure to find Forbidden Island super-engaging.

We found the game great for our girls at ages 10+ and it definitely engaged a less than willing nearly 13 year old!

You start with an Adventure Card which gives you a specific set of skills.

Each player has their own set of strengths and it’s up to you as a team to decide which players are better going for which treasures.

Non-competitive to avoid arguments!

As you need to work co-operatively, the game has much less of a competitive edge.

So, if your family tends to get a little too carried away in game play resulting in arguments, this is a safer game to go with!

Of course, you could still get competitive trying to beat the game, but at least any anger and frustration won’t be aimed at the rest of the family!

A different game every time

I was concerned that once we had played it a couple fo times the game would get very samey, but perhaps one of the best features of Forbidden Island is that it changes each time.

So it's a different game each time you play and you’ll benefit from lots of replay value.

Of course, it also means you can’t count on the same strategy which got you through the last game, to get you through a new one.

Each new game requires a completely different strategy and problem-solving to survive it.

It’s not hard to see why the Forbidden Island card game has become on of the most popular family games on the market.

One in a long list in a very enjoyable series, this is sure to delight both adults and children alike. If you like this one, why not invest in some of the other great games in the collection?
