Did you know that bees have five eyes?

They have three small eyes in a triangle on top of their head and two bigger ones in the front.

The hair on their body helps them collect pollen from flowers.

How Long Do Bees Live?

The life expectancy of a bee depends on what type of bee it is and what its job is in the hive.

For example, worker bees live about six weeks during the busy season.

But, they can live up to six months if the colony doesn't need them to work as much.

The queen bee can live for up to five years!



Where Do Bees Live?

Bees live in hives with a queen bee, worker bees, and drones.

The queen bee is the only female bee that can lay eggs.

Worker bees are all female and they take care of the hive and make honey.

A hive can have up to 60,000 bees all busy doing their jobs!



What Do Bees Eat?

Bees eat pollen and nectar from flowers.

The pollen sticks to the hair on their bodies as they fly from flower to flower.

When they visit the next flower, some of the pollen from the previous flower drops off.

This is how they pollinate flowers so that the flowers turn into fruit or seed.

They store the nectar in a special stomach and take it back to the hive. There, the worker bees turn it into honey.

Bees replenish their energy reserves by eating the sugar-rich honey.

Now that we've learned a few interesting facts about bees, let's make our own paper cone bee craft!

What You'll Need:

Instructions

1. Print out the PDF template.

Then, use the templates to trace and cut out the pieces for the bee from yellow, white and black craft papers.



2. Take two googly eyes and glue them on to the bee’s head. 

Then glue the two horns on the top of the bee’s head at the back. 

Now, glue the stripes on to the triangular paper cone piece. 



3. Roll the triangular paper into a cone and use glue along the edge to secure it (adult help required).



4. Use a marker pen to draw outlines on the wings.

Then use colourful markers to draw the cheeks and mouth of the bee. 



5. Glue the wings on to the back of the cone body.



6. Then finish it off by gluing the bee’s head on top.
