Earlier this week we spent an afternoon at Cottage Chamomile, Sidlesham (near Chichester). This field of chamomile is open for one week a year and is a delightful place to visit.
Cottage Chamomile at Church Farm grow English chamomile and distill it into essential oil, which can be bought onsite or ordered online. They also make bath and body products such as body wash, liquid soap and hand & body lotion.
But for one week a year you can head to the quiet village of Sidlesham, West Sussex to wander the field, inhaling the gorgeous scent and indulging in home-made cake and fresh chamomile tea.
Wander the mown paths amongst the chamomile and wild flowers, and experience the sights, sounds and scent of millions of English chamomile flowers blooming in the summer sun. The field is alive with insects, so take a few moments to sit and take in the beauty of nature.
Our girls love it here, and spend ages watching harvestman spiders, grasshoppers, crickets, beetles and ladybirds.
Run your fingers through the plants to inhale the scent, and be sure to try the delicious honey cake, biscuits and chamomile tea. Local supplier Caroline's Dairy also makes chamomile ice cream for you to try and there is honey from the farm's very own bees to buy.
Chamomile tea made with freshly picked flowers is such a treat and perfect for enjoying in the field, sip it while you try to take the perfect photos of the flowers or your little ones. Then take home your very own chamomile or local herb plant to remind you of your visit.
